CIEMAT (Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Mediambientales y Tecnológicas) are currently carrying out studies to assess the possibility of Spain offering a site for ITER. Under consideration is the former nuclear reactor site of Vandellós I (Cataluña), currently being decommissioned, and a second possibility is near Valencia.

Preliminary industrial studies have already highlighted the benefits for the Spanish industry if ITER is constructed in Spain.

Dr. C. Alejaldre (CIEMAT-Fusion) points out that Spain is still in a study phase to prepare a decision by the Government on whether Spain will offer a site, and if so, which.
The studies will be completed soon.
