Professor K R Sreenivasan and Dr C Tuniz were welcomed to JET by Jérôme Paméla (EFDA Associate Leader for JET), Duarte Borba (Head of Publications) and Richard Kamendje (Scientific Assistant to the EFDA Associate Leader for JET). Jérôme Paméla gave a presentation on JET and its role in the overall fusion programme. Some preliminary discussions with Dr.Vassili Parail and Dr. Mikhail Gryaznevich were followed by a visit to the JET facilities which included the Control Room, Remote Handling, Torus Hall and Tritium Storage facility.

During a working lunch, the teaching of plasma physics was discussed in the context of the large fusion projects such as JET and ITER. Possible collaboration between ICTP and EFDA was also discussed, in view of strengthening the post-graduated tuition of plasma physics and the preparation of the next generation of scientists required for long term fusion research.

Professor K R Sreenivasan got his PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, 1975 and served as editor or associate editor of journals such as Journal of  Applied Mechanics, Theoretical and Computational Fluid Mechanics, Physical Review Letters, Physical Review E, Physics of Fluids, and Journal of Fluid Mechanics. In addition to his position as director, he has been named the Abdus Salam Honorary Professor of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP).
