Applying fusion insights now
Harnessing fusion power on earth would provide sustainable energy on an almost limitless scale, to supply the needs of a growing world population. On the way to developing fusion, researchers and industries also discover applications of their work to wider challenges in society. The SOFT Innovation Prize is an initiative of the European Commission and is awarded on the Symposium on Fusion Technology SOFT. It aims to stimulate such innovation and wishes to foster an entrepreneurial culture in fusion research.
About the SOFT Innovation Prize
Participants are free to submit an application concerning any physics or technology innovation that has been developed in magnetic confinement fusion research and that has market potential or has been taken up (or recognised) by industry to be further developed for the market.
Entries will be assessed on originality and replicability, technical excellence, and economic impact, exploitation and plans for further development. The three prizes of €50,000, €30,000 and €20,000 will be awarded by an independent jury composed of experts in technology transfer, from business and academia. The SOFT Innovation Prize will be awarded during the 32nd SOFT symposium in September 2022.
