Electron cyclotron resonant heating, ECRH

Additional heating method using Radio Frequency waves to accelerate electrons orbiting in the magnetic field. In comparison to the more commonly used Ion Cylotron Resonant Heating (ICRH), ECRH requires much higher frequencies (in the order of 100 GHz as compared to around 50 MHz), which is more challenging for wave generation and transmission. ECRH is installed on some other large tokamaks such as JT-60U in Japan, DIII-D in USA and ASDEX-Upgrade in Germany and it will be installed in Wendelstein 7-X in Germany.
