The Mascot servo-manipulator inside the mockup facility

After the initial remote handling task development, which takes place in a virtual simulation, the more challenging tasks have to be completed and verified in so-called mockup trials.

The in-vessel tasks trials are performed using the real remote handling equipment commanded from the remote handling control room. The trials are conducted on a mock-up facility comprising three-quarters of the Torus in-vessel environment with both dummy components and also spare and prototype real components.
This mock-up facility is used for task feasibility proving, task procedure development and finally operator training.

Trials for ex-vessel remote handling tasks is performed using full scale mock-ups built specifically for each task. The Telescopic Articulated Remote Mast (TARM) will be used to transport and position the Mascot around the mock-up.
