Preparing the next experiments in 2013

Last week marks the end of the first period of JET operations with the all-metal ‘ITER-Like Wall’. The machine is now going into a period of several months of maintenance, ready to restart operations early in 2013.

Keeping it clean

During recent campaigns, experiments have been performed to adapt an already established cleaning concept for the beryllium and tungsten walls. The first indications from the physicists are that this will be an excellent candidate for use in ITER.

Hybrid operation achieved

There has been good progress in implementing the new capabilities of JET. Neutral beam heating power has now reached 21MW and routinely and reliably operated at 16 to 18MW.
