A former JET scientist, Henrik Bindslev has been appointed as Director of Fusion for Energy. The announcement was made on 25th October by the Chair of the Fusion for Energy Governing Board, Stuart Ward.
Dr Bindslev worked for ten years at JET during the 1990s. In this time he played a key role in the development of the diagnostic technique of Collective Thomson Scattering which uses interactions with microwaves as a means of measuring the confined fast ions within a plasma – an area which will be important in ITER.
After leaving JET, Dr Bindslev worked at EFDA’s Dutch association, FOM, before moving back to his native Denmark, where he became the Director of Risø. He is currently Vice Dean for research at Aarhus University, Faculty of Science and Technology and past Chair of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA).
