This week a significant milestone has been reached in the Neutral Beam Enhancement (NBE) project.  Last mentioned in week 49, one of the two Central Support Columns (CSC) has been reinstalled into the Neutral Injection Box (NIB) at Octant 4. The Octant 8 CSC is also ready and waiting for installation at a convenient time in future, probably next week.

Installing a CSC is a large job, taking several hours to lift it from the Assembly Hall into the Torus Hall using the 150 tonne crane. Access to the areas under the path of the crane is limited for safety reasons, but the task was completed safely and efficiently. Now that this large component is back in place the task of reconnecting the services to it – not a small task in itself!
