In Lisbon (Portugal) EFDA Leader and current chair of the EIROforum Francesco Romanelli handed out all seven EIROforum prize certificates.
The prestigious European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) was initiated in 1989 by the European Commission. The contest shall encourage talented students to follow their passion. Almost all projects presented to the international jury are developed with amazing motivation in the student’s spare time.
Janis Smits from Latvia will be spending a week at JET. The 18 year old physics student has won the special prize provided by all EIROforum partners. His project was entitled ‘Optimization of Synthesis Conditions of Lithium Iron Phosphate and Development of a Thin Layer Battery’.
The other special prize winners will spend a week with the organisations that make up the collaboration together with EFDA JET.
The seven EIROforum organisations (EFDA JET, CERN, EMBL, ESA, ESO, ESRF and ILL) have extensive expertise in the areas of basic research and the management of large, international infrastructures, facilities and research programmes. It is the mission of EIROforum to combine the resources, facilities and expertise of its member organisations to support European science in reaching its full potential.
